Air Quality & Purification
Indoor air quality (IAQ) is becoming an increasing concern for families throughout the Charlotte Metro area. And with good reason—the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that indoor pollutant levels can be as much as 100 times higher than outdoor air!
At Quality Comfort Heating & Air-Conditioning, Inc., we offer a variety of systems, from humidifiers to UV light systems to air cleaners, to improve your indoor air quality at home. Contact us for all your HVAC needs and we’ll address all your air quality concerns!
Types of IAQ Systems
Whole House Humidifiers & Dehumidifiers
Humidity management in your home is very important because lack of it can cause discomfort as well as the growth of mold and other health implications. Excessive humidity during the Carolinas’ sticky summers can cause mold to grow, while lack of humidity during winter can lead to a range of other problems—such as dry throat, dry skin, and irritated sinuses or asthma and allergy symptoms.
Air humidifiers and dehumidifiers can provide a number of great benefits for homes in Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston and Cabarrus counties in North Carolina, as well as York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina, including:
If you want to improve your indoor air quality, but you don’t think a humidifier is right for you, consider an air purifier. Air purifiers improve air quality by pulling microbes, odors, gasses, chemical fumes, and particulates out of the air. This type of IAQ system can provide wonderful health benefits to people with asthma, allergies, COPD, or other respiratory problems.
There are many different models of air purifiers on the market, and all of them target different pollutants in your air, so be sure to take your own needs into account when you are investing in an air purifier. If your primary concern is allergens (pollen, pet dander, etc.), for instance, you will want to go with a HEPA filter air purifier. If odors are a problem in your home, an ozone or carbon filter air purifier will benefit you more. And if you are concerned by the amount of bacteria or viruses in your air, an ultraviolet light air purifier will sterilize them, meaning microorganisms will no longer be able to reproduce and grow.
Air conditioners have a variety of benefits, but they can still cause serious damage if proper precautionary measures are not taken into consideration. Air conditioner float switches are used to protect against one of the most destructive things that you’re ac system can cause: an overflow.
An overflow occurs when dirt and slim clog the drain lines, causing it to backup. If your evaporator coil unit has a drain pan, then it can catch any excess moisture before it results to serious concerns. A drain pan is particularly crucial for air conditioning systems in attics since an overflow can destroy the ceiling, and even result in microbial growth. Microbial growth can lead to mold, which creates a potentially hazardous living environment. Drain pans are also useful in preventing overflow damage in vacation homes, especially when the owner is away for a long period of time. However, a drain pan can only prevent overflow until full capacity, after which the liquid begins to spill over.
UV Germicidal Lights
During peak heating and cooling seasons, we keep our windows shut for weeks or months at a time causing the same indoor air to repeatedly circulate throughout our homes gathering mold, allergens, and other contaminants along the way. This results in air that is on average five times more polluted than outdoor air. In fact, the EPA rates indoor air quality one of the top environmental health risks of today, and many modern air purification techniques, including sprays, candles, and ozone generators, only serve to mask odors and add more chemicals to the air instead of solving the root of the problem.
UV-C germicidal lights are ozone-free, chemical-free, and completely safe. They kill over 99.9% of illness-causing irritants, leaving you with truly purified indoor air in as little as 24 hours. This amazing piece of technology is available through Quality Comfort!
